A little too close to Eric Anderson's "Thirsty Boots", 1960's.

We saw her last week in Chico. I was dissapointed in her band. No Drums, keyboards, just another guitar and bass player. There were holes in her songs.
She was still very great to see. She told a story about this song. It was the first song she wrote when she was 18. Its about another camp counselor at a summer camp she wroked at back east when she was a kid.

This song is sweeter than sugar. I love it. Conjures an ever so slightly different sort of a gypsy than the ones the word is applied to in the UK.

Likes and dislikes are obviusly an intensely personal thing, and that's what the variety of music in RP is all about. However, anyone who's been around for more than a couple of decades trying to collect good music (or anyone bothering to look her bio up - eg.: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzanne_Vega#Discography), knows she's built a long career in the music industry, and is well beyond the stage of "trying to be". In view of her work and accomplishes, I believe that would-be patronizing opinions such as the above look rather silly. |

Beautiful song! Suzanne Vega does not have a particularly strong or wide-ranging voice. I think that she is aware of this and writes songs that are a perfect fit for her vocal style.

Her dad is white...she's not sure if she will release the song she wrote about it. The song is called, "Daddy is White" appropriately enough. Kind of strange. |

I always thought she had wonderfully descriptive lyrics and a lovely voice. I saw her perform at Carnegie Hall ages ago and really enjoyed it. I still like this song, even if it is a little slow and dreary.

Yeah, my dad learned that the hard way. He finally changed his phone number just to keep me from coming over every night! |
