I just love how this talented musical genius man can write and sing about being married to — and hurt by — Carrie Fisher; let's not forget she was Princess Leia at the time — in such a cool, groovy song, and have the guts to share it with us all.  Thanks, Paul, for this and all such peeks into your mind, heart, and soul.  The world is a richer place for it!

As great as "Graceland" is, "Rhythm of the Saints" has always been my favorite Simon album, and easily one of my Top 10 of all time.  That said, Simon's latest, "So Beautiful or So What" is fantastic.

Agree that this is a great album, but I think his new stuff is terrific, too.

Ermm...He wrote "The Capeman, a musical that bombed on Broadway in '98. He put out the CD "Surprise" in '06. And he came out with a new album, "So Beautiful Or So What" this year; RP has played some of the songs from it.

I've always wondered whether this song is about the end of his marriage to Carrie Fisher—I know he makes reference to her in "Graceland." It just amazes me that they were ever involved; now that I look on Wikipedia, they were together (on and off) for almost ten years. Carrie in her day was doing all sorts of drugs; she had a reputation of being able to party as hard as John Belushi did before that speedball did him in. Then you throw in her bipolar disorder...Paul Simon OTOH seems as mild and clean as a church mouse.

I have to give Paul some points for the percussion.  And as I say this I realize that through the years it has been that element that has been the deciding factor for most of the Paul Simon songs that I've liked.

I never knew of this before. I went to the cited reference to read the whole interview with Steve Berlin. I was pretty shocked about Paul Simon's alleged attitude and approach. My perspective on the music has done a 180. Shit. {#Eek}

I first learned about this fight over "The Myth of Fingerprints" from another RPer. I tend to believe Los Lobos on this one. If you rely only on the Wikipedia article, Paul Simon pretty much dances around the issue and never states "Yes, I wrote this song on my own."

The way I see it, Paul screwed over Los Lobos when it came to "Myth"—or tried to. But the guy has decades of hits that he undisputedly wrote on his own.

IMO this tune is not that good. Paul Simon is a very talented guy. We would not have heard of a guy named Art Garfunkal if it was not for Paul Simon. You do not know what your talking about.

And we probably wouldn't have heard about Art Garfunkel either..
