Funny, I was just thinking, this sounds like a more-upbeat Nick Cave....

We are seeing the genius that is Richard Thompson again, in July at Bath, England, a solo gig this time.

I absolutely love and admire Richard Thompson's ready-aim-fire approach to music. He's so fearless and funny and heartbreakingly-talented. I don't think I've ever heard a song of his that didn't move me on some level. |

In my opinion there's nothing in this world beats a 52 Vincent and a red headed girl. But I can listen to this with equal ease. |

Awesome musician, doing it purely for the love of music! If you don't "get it", then I urge you to try more of his music. But ultimately I couldn't care, I'm just happy I have some of his music in my collection! And you don't!

Yes indeed, you are missing something. One could ask what you look for in music, what your general tastes are, etc. I do not consider Richard Thompson to be an acquired taste (more like instant acceptance), although apparently some do. If you really want to understand, borrow a CD or 2 from your library and find out. Otherwise, accept that your taste in music has limits. Too bad, if this is the case. His work over the past 3+ decades is remarkable. |

Yes! Not just a gifted musician and songwriter, but an engaging and funny entertainer. I saw him during his 1000 Years of Popular Music tour. What a show! |

Like many sublimely worthwhile things, RT can be an 'acquired' taste. |

Funny how different people react to a singer. When I hear Richard singing I turn it up. I have liked him for a long time.
Of course if you really want to like him better see him perform. Every time I have seen him I come away thinking that was the best show ever. Listening to his music you have no idea the man is so funny. |

My sentiments, as well. He gets plussed way up for his great playing but down for his vocal "stylings." So my length for this rating vector is a middlin' 5, but that really doesn't convey my regard for his talent. |
