Greg is a real original....he's from outside of Iowa City, IA....sister in law used to see him play live all the time in the late 70's...he was a hard worker then....and still is today. One of my favorite tracks off this album is Laughing River

Greg Brown is great - what's the song about his Grannie's peaches?
Summer In A Jar - I think... marvelous storyteller. Great human being. He took a year off to vounteer for Habitat For Humanity - swinging a hammer.
Now he's married to Iris De Ment.
It's hard to go wrong with Greg Brown

I thought Mark Knopfler too, as I was scrolling up. You beat me to it. Not as rough-around-the-edges-cool as Mark though. |

Greg's voice reminds me a little of Randy Newman on this song. Only this song though. This guy is GREAT! |

I heard Greg and Ani Difranco do a duet on KPIG once that absolutely kicked ass. I think it was, "Angry Anymore."

This only had a rating in the low 7's? There must not be many PIGS out there.

That's the line that got me too! Is all his stuff this good??
This whole song reminds me of my recently-defunct marriage.
Good stuff, play more of him. |

Great song from a voice that doesn't sound like anybody elses.
Just got a cd from his daughter, Pieta Brown, that she did with the help of Bo Ramsey on guitar. Amazing record and an example of genetics at its best.

He should be named the "King of Folk"...BTW , there are much better songs off that album. It's a must have to any collection.

Dream Cafe & Poet Game are both very wonderfull but dark
like a cup of peets coffee.
In the Dark with you is wonderfull also but far more upbeat.
I think sometime after in the dark she dumped his ass
and that's where Dream Cafe comes from |

Any good on his own? Or are you saying Ramsey was playing guitar for Greg Brown?
Bo on his own is great...he plays with Greg quite a bit...on alot of his abums. Saw Greg, Bo, and Joe price together....3 Iowa boys that can really rock. |
