I love that crazy bagpipe collision in the middle of the song. Very inventive alternative to the standard (and expected) guitar solo.

Anyone else hear the Bowie's Space Oddity in the opening?

Plus the whole Milky Way thing. Not sure if it's deliberate, but the influence is there.

Great song, but favourite on this album is 'Destination'. Wonder if that ever get's played?

Also, saw them open up for Peter Murphy in Tampa. Fun show.

I like this song as much now as I did then. That must count for something ...

Note: Current Artist Website Link points to the "Church of Satan" for anyone interested. They're looking for a few outstanding individuals ... Yikes!

Sitting here, working on reading and analyzing Jack Kerouac's 1950's novel "On The Road," at 1:30 am---well, it seems this song is even more fitting and prophetic than it might otherwise be right now.

...wish I knew what you were looking for,
might have known what you would find

Love how this (and other songs) are used in Donnie Darko. Really brings out the meaning.

If you like the bagpipes in this song -- you should listen to the cover by Seven Nations on the album "Big Dog" with Neil Anderson piping (before he left the band). Someone has uploaded some other songs by Seven Nations, perhaps that person could upload the Seven Nations version.

There's a man in Norway who showed me the Northern Lights when this song was a big hit. This song will always remind me of him.

Ironically, this song came out at a time when we started Star gazing... A 9.

This song gives me a Miami Vice flashback, as "Under The Milky Way" was the "featured" song on one of it's episodes......Anyway....The song is better than the flashback. :)
Very funny note. I think this song is totally awesome and has endured especially well.

Had the vinyl album in the late 80s but don't have the CD.... don't think I've heard it since those days. Great song from a very good album... thanks to whoever uploaded it.

Check out the Donnie Darko fan-site - The Cellar Door - much easier to navigate than the official site and has great info.

Best Church song!

This song was EVERYWHERE in the 80's. Well...maybe not "Thriller" everywhere, but still...I can't imagine missing it entirely.

As stated here in the earlier posts, this might bring certain movie, Donnie Darko, into a mind... this song elevated atmosphere of the strange and exiting movie such a great way.... as the whole soundtrack did. Sorry for categorizations, but "shame" to admit, that "teenager pop" combined into great theme might turn around even old-school or art-school strict music taste for some particular songs. (so for example, i'm basically a drooling Pavlov dog what comes to this song and whole soundtrack ). Well, this is a good song also in the merits of it's own...

Donnie Darko Soundtrack

05. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" - Joy Division
06. "Under the Milky Way" - The Church
07. "Mad World" - Gary Jules

First listen of a forgotten treasure. Bravo. Great tune. Wasn't a good year for me, 88, seems I missed it.
