Probably the most important rock single of the past thirty years....

and you may find yourself in another part of the world
listening to Radio Paradise
and you may ask yourself
well...
and you may find yourself contemplating those 105-degree hydrogen bonds
yes the magic of water
why it doesn't sink when it freezes
and if not
dead we'd all be indeed
and the voices of all
make white noise
-- the sound of water
or snow
on your TV
and you may say to yourself
My God -- what have I done?
see refrain
and say refrain
same as it ever was

This reminds me of the first time I lived overseas.
If you have ever lived in a big expat house, in a foreign culture, this song says a lot.
(not that it didn't previously)

What an amazing song. I just LOVED the video way back when as well.

I remember an old Muppet show episode where Kermit sings this song and yes, he is wearing the white suit and doing the hand gestures with his flipppers! I would love to see that video again!

One of their best, and not because of its commercial success. It never gets old.

This is about when the Talking Heads really came into their own. They started to jam in the style of Fela Kuti, and this tune evolved out of parts they picked out of their jam sessions. Totally original but inspired by another musical virtuoso. It's great how genius feeds genius.

OK, so something good did come from the 80s. Of course, this was really the 11th year of the 70s. ;-)

This is the theme song for my life. I often turn to my wife and say "Is this my beautiful wife? Is this my beautiful house? How did I get here?".
She usually nods knowingly.

Yeah, play that crazy video of the song instead!
Or, as an alternative, one of the live versions. |

my favourite aspect of this song is the eno in the background - you have to admit he and byrne were very complimentary.
there's a good commentary in the july issue of Mojo on U2 talking about eno and lanois, and how they work in the studio...
i love the creative process sooooo much.
