This song is pretty persuasive evidence that R.E.M is (or was) an amazing band. {#Wink}

It would appear that it is YOU who lack a discerning ear (or in this case eye). If you had noticed the original post you'd see that I was taking a pot shot at an artist from pushkinjim's homeland. But at least you were polite in your cluelessness.

To those that might not be familiar with the reference, your original post could also be read as an affirmation and not a pot shot, you tool. Oops! There goes that politeness.

Hey, I'm biased (a fan since '82), but I love Time After Time.

I believe (no pun intended) that they played the song live back when they were touring to support this album. They probably are playing live occasionally now, as they are pulling a "Stones" and playing stuff they haven't played in 20+ years.

Honestly, if you've never seen them, do yourself a favor and go. They're older, just like we are. But they are as good as ever, except Bill Berry isn't there. Bill Rieflin seems to be Bill's replacement, and Scott McCaughey is there on guitar with Pete now. I saw them in Berkeley last June, and it was great. Good times! {#Clap}

One thing that I have always loved about REM is this: there are no "tepid" fans. People either really like them, or they hate them to the point of disgust. And the band plays on! {#Roflol}

Really, get over it. REM is a part of the DNA of American rock. Peter Buck was playing arpeggios and minimal solos when Poison and Bon Jovi were in the Top 40, and Michael has been "whining" through five President's terms of office. What's that tell you? {#Yes} {#Money-mouth} {#Sealed}

That's because Stipe has a very "whiney" quality to his voice. You can hear it when he speaks as well as sings.

I never cared for REM on the whole (their stuff gets redundant, to me, quickly) but this is one of the few tunes of theirs I've allways liked a lot.

Just one of those band I don't get. To me, they sound so whiney.

Love that one drum hit, swathed in reverb, right before the vocals kick in.

This is when they were the best band in the USA, unequivocally.

I watched REM stand in the driving rain last May at Sasquatch '08 while they delivered almost 2 hrs of solid rock and roll.  An amazing live performance from an amazing band.

Maybe it is because their music is plodding, dull, limp-wristed and twee and that Michael Stipe's voice sounds like a constant whine. This could explain why their music annoys the hell out of a lot of people. Especially when they are so over-played.

So you think because a band was one of the first to be tagged with a label, they should be above criticism and people are not allowed to hate them? I think that is more a case of WTF?

Sorry, anybody who uses the word "twee" is not to be taken seriously.
