"You'll never walk alone" - it's the Liverpool FC anthem from the 60's - 70's.
My favorite floyd album and an outstanding track. A solid 9 in my book.

Liverpool team song....I believe.  I actually was cranking this song in college when my dorm master from England came in shocked that I had that song as it was something he participated in as a kid - if I recall properly (from 30+ years ago!), I believe he said it was either the Liverpool or Manchester team song...?  Others can confirm?

First time listening to this album/song I had an out of body experience.  This album is worth the listen if you haven't been exposed to less popular Floyd.  Favorite Floyd albums in order- Animals, The Wall, this one, and Dark Side.

From what I recall hearing many, many  years ago, PF as a group got angry with their audiences after DSOTM because they no longer remained quiet during their performances and would cheer and applaud at odd times during certain moments pissing them off.  PF prefered a very quiet audience when they played so that the little nuances would be heard and the mood and sometimes suspense they worked so hard to develop would be intact.

I had the pleasure of seeing them in a small gym at Kent State prior to the DSOTM breakout and was blown away.  Was even roadie for a day at that show.  Saw them many times subsequently.  Always a great show regardless.  They just became a victim of their own success and decided to go with it and cash in.  Who can blame them ?

I love PF.  Just as much today as then.

It was Case Western Reserve University gymnasium for me. Of all the concerts I have seen, this one still resonates.

For me, Pink Floyd became less interesting around the time they recorded Dark Side. All responses to songs are subjective, but it's their obviously psychedelics-inspired, or at least influenced early work, before their excessive successes that made them so unreasonably popular, that I find most interesting. I first saw them when they had recently released Atom Heart Mother, in a university gymnasium. Truly fantastic and mind-altering, although I was completely straight. The next show was Fulton County Stadium, surrounded by drunken louts. This was after DSOTM, and the experience may not have been much better for me than for the band (judging from some of their work on this theme). Success surely did not destroy the band, but it led to changes that were not altogether positive.

Good points.  Personally, I can barely stand to hear any of their stuff after this album anymore - maybe it's just the overplay, maybe not.

I completely agree with your observations.

I've put some thought into the obvious correlation between financial success and degradation of artistic merit that one sees in mass-media age.  I think the problem is the outrageous success, the financial shock of success, and the screwed up corporate culture of mass-media makes the artists life and experiences too divergent from the their audiences, and they no longer relate as well.

When they have a lot of life experiences behind them,  they often can avoid or mitigate these influences, but the artists who experience this success at an early age (life or artistic), seem to suffer the most.
