red5_bc wrote:Moody Blues, anyone?
Hi red5! Both groups started out at the same time, but they came from different musical genres. Love was rooted in California rock and much of Love's music, except for the Forever Changes album, would qualify as "heavy" rock with fully engaged guitars. Of course, they are similar enough that most Moody Blues fans should like Love and visa versa!
This song was written by the number two member of the band, Bryan McLean. The original was a solo guitar with the Spanish influence that McLean brought to the group. Arthur Lee and producer Bruce Botnick overdubbed with the orchestra and Lee's voice, driving McLean nuts and contributing to the breakup of Love.
I agree with sharkartist, this among among the most beautiful sings.......ever.

I really like this entire tune but I especially like the Spanish/Mexican flavor of the guitar and horns.

Great tune. It was faithfully rendered by the English hard rock group UFO as well.

Some songs scream "dated". This is an example.

Well, I remember at the time, some of us thought they were a "little too LA". But the stuff really holds up well, doesn't it?

Bought the album when it first came out, unheard. Had two earlier Love albums. For over 30 years, I've never gotten tired of it. Can't believe how few have heard of it or the band. TA in PA

Unlikely to have happened. They made a big point of only playing in California in the day. Huge band here, particularly in LA, but almost completely unknown outside of California. |
