If Aliens came down and scolded us for doing what we have done to ourselves and our planet, I would say, " yeah, maybe so, but at least we have Take Five."

I like this song and regard it as pretty darn okay, but it's more overplayed than excellent.

I imagine that to a jazz purist (which I am not) this music is considered excellent but overplayed, much like Layla by Derek & the Dominoes.

I've heard that some jazz purists don't consider it jazz at all and think that it's far too formulaic. I don't have much knowledge of jazz but I disagree with them on both counts.

I restore old recording equipment as a hobby and quite a few old machines here. And no noticeable hiss from this 7.5 ips tape.

First 10 for me, too. Lifts me every time I hear it.

Thanks for that. What is a measure?  I am not pulling your leg.  I really don't have a clue.  I just love stuff that's "off beat' :)

You might think of a measure as a musical phrase or sentence.  Or you might think of it as a group of notes that go together to make a piece of music.  If you look at printed music, it's easy to see, as each measure is in a separate section, divided by vertical lines.

If it helps any, the first number is how many beats per measure and the second is what note gets the beat.  So 5/4 means that there are 5 beats per measure and the quarter note gets the beat.  9/8 means that there are 9 beats per measure and the eighth note gets the beat.

I had heard about the famouse 5/4 but don't know much about 9/8.   Actually... don't know much about music!

teo macero was the producer - his records always sound good. ask miles davis

what make this stand out is the 9/8 and 5/4 timing

Forever a TEN !     And what truly amazing hi-fidelity from 1959.  No tape hiss but still very good dynamic range.

So far the only tune I've given a '10' rating. Love Dave Brubeck! The cool drum solo is icing on the cake!
