Not a friend of "STADIUM-BANDS",
never been a friend of the EAGLES
(despite some great songs),
but recently I saw their LIVE-DVD
from their final world-tour (Australia)...

and...?

Was TOTALLY STUNNED at the XXXtreme quality!

- of the band as a whole,
- of all 4 (!!!) solo-guitar players,
- Joe Walsh's qualities as singer (and great guitar, of course)
- 4 (!) perfect singers all part of the original band (and I mean super-super perfect)
- the perfect presentation in a sound and light-quality I have possibly NEVER seen!
- the harmonies
- the vibes at the concert

It was just a magical night - even on DVD one can feel that!

For ll EAGLES-fans who have not seen this concert (live or on DVD)
it is certainly one of the "MUST-HAVE'S")

and, again - I am NOT an EAGLES fan!

Get Over It
or perhaps you have just never heard these cuts. Judging by your statements and the statments other Eagle's haters, you were really far into groups like New Kids On The Block, The Pet Shop Boys, and other teeny bopper bands who's music was far more in tune with your time.

The person you're responding to is way past 35 (as am I), and the songs you referenced are little more than Top 40 pablum (i.e., crap) from an earlier era.

I like some of the Eagles stuff, particularly the Desperado album and a few of their other tunes, including this one.

To me these guys are prototypical twentieth century rock stars in so many ways:  the money, the coke, the women.

Scroll forward to the 21st century:  thanks to digital, the music industry is no longer in a position to charge basically whatever it wants for the records, and so artists are touring more.

I recently saw these guys in Toronto.  We actually were there for the Dixie Chicks, but after 35 years on the road you know the Eagles are gonna put on a very professional show.  And they did.

Was it worth $240 a seat?  Naw —- but that's what the demise of the recording side of the industry has wrought.

Looks like the jig is up, too —- the Eagles have saturated some US markets, Philadelphia for instance, with $200 concert tickets to the point that some of their shows are now being cancelled.

My prediction is that in the not too distant future multibazillionaire rock stars like the Eagles (and Clapton, who mailed in a Toronto show this year that also had a top ticket price north of $200) will be on display next to the dinosaurs at your local museum.  I'll leave it to others to decide whether that's a good thing.

Build song around banjo = no thanks.  Put strings around banjo no thanks = really really no thanks.  It went from nowhere to nowhere.

I don't care for the heavy string section, but I rate this high because Felder is so innovative with the banjo.  I've tried to learn this piece for years.

Felder was with the group by this time, but I believe that's Bernie Leadon on the banjo. At least that's what the liner notes say.

I got the chance to listen to him here at UT Austin during the Route 42 talks. It was worth the wait in line. That was just before he caught a ride with the Vogons and left us forever.

I loved this song since the first time I heard it. The association with the guide just makes it better. So long as this song plays, Aurthur, Ford, Trillian and Zaphod live on... Now, about that Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster, just make sure the benzine is fresh.

Well, I unfairly love this track for all the mental imagery conjured up from it's association The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. BUT WHO CARES! It's my rating and I'll do as I like :)

(snip)

Well (since you asked):

Because back then, the Eagles were in the habbit of sitting around and playing Dark Side of the Moon while watching The Wizard of Oz (just for giggles)..

...And so was Douglas Adams!

...Well ... 'bout that time (subjectively speaking, of course), it somehow became fashionable for dive bars around Middlesex to set up "Dark Side of Oz" viewings.

One night, they ended up together (along with some other close friends) in the same dive bar somewhere around Middlesex, and when no one was looking, Joe Walsh (who was particularly drunk at the time on Pan-Galactic Gargleblasters) got to talking to Douglas, Zaphod, and Trillion about time machines and birth control.

One thing led to another, and they all found themselves re-materialized in a studio in LA (in 1968).

...So anyway, when Burt Bacharach went to take a long lunch break, they thought it'd be a really great joke if they just went and out and got Glen and the boys in for a quick tracking session!

Then, after a quick visit to 2004 for a ProTools session (and after dubbing the results to 1/4' analog via a subspace link to Abbey Road Studios), they came on back to the bar for a few more rounds.

...And the rest is History!

(Or prophesy, depending on how you look at it.)

{#Lol}

Also, had it not been for this strange occurrence, Joe Walsh probably would never have joined The Eagles!

Right there with you.  Loved that someone here called the BBC series (which I practically had memorized in the 80s) "adorable."  Cause that's exactly what it was.

"Come on, man. I had a rough night and I hate the f***in' Eagles, man!" — The Dude (Jeffrey Lebowski) from the Big Lebowski

For the most part, I would agree with The Dude.  This tune, however, is from back when they played with soul and inspiration rather than polish and production.  (Joe Walsh became an Eagle!!??  He must've been hard up for payments on his Maserati that does 185.)

Yes, what were they smoking when they came up with this one? {#Lol} Whatever it was it worked, this is quite an intriguing number. I'll bet the Eagles were as surprised as anyone when a British sci-fi program chose it as a theme.
