Everything in the song is relevant to the story. You cut any one bit, and it stops making sense altogether!

I fully appreciate the cultural significance of the song but surely they must have released a radio edit for the short attention span generation.

We listen every year.  My eleven-year-old is a convert and loves it, but her four year old brother thinks it's boring.  Maybe all you haters need to grow up?
