The bassline is what makes this song work.

The Cure was my first ever concert, I was 15 or 16 it was 1986 or so I think it was Radio City Music hall of all places. Me and my best friend had no Idea what to expect, we just listened to their albums by ourselves (I would load up on music on my trips to UK to stay w/my Dad), and when we got to the show it was one Giant Pulsing Black Ocean of Goths!, and us in our Esprit outfits! It was fun. ahh memories....

Well, for the minority viewpoint: it's noisy - cacophonous even - and relentless in a mind-numbing way.

Damn, they suck. And completely a mismatch for Radio Paradise. If a large amount of RP listeners hadn't happened to have been in College or HighSchool when those songs came out, no one here would listen to that whiny swill.

Transcendent, my sweaty balls.

Sounds like you have a musical taste problem rivaled only by your personal hygiene problem. I take the liberty of a collective Cure lovers' response to Chuckles:

Pull on your pout
Cut the conversation just open your mouth"

Hmmm, I think sweaty balls are funny.

I'm glad for those who dig them, and can tolerate the odd digression, but for the rest of us out here, please limit our late 80s garmonbozia.

Hmm. "Mismatch for Radio Paradise," yet "a large amount of RP listeners" seem to dig it. Sounds like we're all really lost. Glad I stumbled into this dis-integration.

One of their best! Best to hear at night though - for true ambiance - guess I'll just close my eyes and pretend.

I'll be honest; I've been a huge fan since sixth grade, 1988, first getting hooked on Just Like Heaven. I have never found the Cure to be particulary brooding or depressing. Out there, trippy maybe, but never a downer. I find that Pink Floyd's lyrics are more depressing than the Cure, while both are trippy in their own ways.

Damn, I love this song! Everytime I hear the opening music - that relentless, dark, throbbing bass and soaring guitar - I have to crank it up, close my eyes, and fly...

I love the Cure - their music makes me feel like I can do anything...

I immediately liked this song as I heard its first few bars on the radio when the album came out. Still like it as much today. Timeless. Good stuff from the Cure.
