I think there is a very good reason this song is at 8.2 with 90 some view..er...listeners chimed thru .... because it is some of the finer works of Floyd.
I will admit sometimes it takes being *in the mood* for certain music.. like me and Reggae .... not a good mix.. but rather than rate the song I tune out either mentally, or in reality ... but I almost always tune back.. because I haven't found anything else out there that is as diverse, or is as wonderfully listenable to, as Radio Paradise is.
If nothing else Bill should be a billionare for being able to program such different pieces of music together and have literally thousands of people who really *WANT* to listen this station and are very thankful of him and his work.
and I try to thank Bill, Rebecca, and Radio Paradise in just about every post... even when its the reggae stuff :D
Thanks RP !! |

Come into work this morning, 100+ emails, all projects falling apart, delays, broken machines, ..., and I tune in RP to hear this. I feel much better.
Thanks.

I read somewhere that Kid A was Radiohead's version of Wish You Were Here, and that struck me as correct. OK Computer is a mature, unusual record as the band leaves an old style behind - like the Floyd did with Dark Side. Then, following the groundbreaking work of Dark Side/Kid A, they follow it up with something more atmospheric and concept: Wish You Were/Kid A. Next step, issue something a little less groundbreaking but in the same vein, and here comes Animals/Amnesiac.
I think it's a pretty good comparison, for the most part. |

Time to crank the volume and hang the GO AWAY! sign on my cube. :D
BTW, this is an excellent tune to do self-hypnosis to. One time after a root canal, while lying in bed waiting for the codeine to kick in, I got the idea to put a self-hypnosis tape in tape 1, and Meddle in tape 2.
By the time I got to Echoes, I felt like I was floating in the music, and I actually felt the codeine (or something) flow from the center of my body outward.
And people wonder why I don't mind root canals. |

thanks for playing this remix. a friend of the family gave the echoes (best of pink floyd) cd to my daughter as a gift. a tasty double cd compilation. the first pf cut that i ever heard (which is on this cd) was "set the controls for the heart of the sun" back in 1970!

Although I do notice some similarities, I don't think Radiohead and Floyd are in competition. But if they were, then Radiohead would be competing with the Division Bell, not Meddle. And frankly, all but Pablo Honey are better than DB, AMLoR and The Final Cut .

What a cool ride! I don't mind that they got rid of most of the whale noises and sonar pings in the middle there.

This brings back a funny memory. First time I played this song back in 70-something, I had the 33 1/3 LP but the turntable was set at 45. I was so stoned I didn't realize it and was just ROCKIN' to this "new" Floyd album. When my wife got home she looked at the turntable and changed the speed to the correct setting. This song has just never been the same for me since. Well that also cuz I don't get high any more either, but still ........
