...which they've all pissed on. This song was reportedly played at the funeral of Raoul Moat, a guy in the North of England who recently went postal with a gun and was eventually cornered by cops and killed himself, and who's since become a folk hero for some.

I love The Who, they're awesome, so I felt I should salute them and put a picture up so the world can see how awesome they are....

Man, what a great, succinct definition of "Classic Rock." {#Clap} I hope you don't mind that I'm going to start using it in casual conversation on a regular basis.

this has always been my least favorite Who tune ...not even sure why ... Who's Next is my favorite album of theirs ...

I had a ticket to see them on 7-20-89 at Alpine Valley ~ gave my ticket away
(in fairness ~ I had been there for 3 days prior in the rain catching the sick the Dead gave everyone)

you know I felt that way for several years.   and then for some reason they started to sound good again, fresh...  don't know exactly why..... but I'm glad to be able to enjoy them again.

I think most music from the Who feels a bit dated and does not really hold up over time, at least for me.      I was a big ole fan of most most of their music back in the day but not now.

And their continued efforts in 80s & 90s to squeeze another nickel out of their older music soured them to me.     To me, it seemed like they didn't even try to come up anything new.     The Rolling Stones at least tried to put out new music, albeit not very good new music.

The "squeeze another nickel" comment is fair enough, but lacks context: these guys were the victim of some incredibly bad management/recording contracts in their heyday and were left with few alternatives except to do what they did.

Not only bad management, but the fact that Pete gets the bulk of the royalties because he wrote most of the songs.  This forced John and Roger to tour constantly to keep their heads above financial ruin. In John and Rogers case, every nickel counted.

The cover would have been better with a barrel, with lips just barely visible behind the bung hole...

If you've never seen it, check out the version of this on YouTube, specifically the Concert for New York City version.  It was recorded approx. 5 weeks after 9-11.  There's actually the whole four song set from the concert; Who Are You, Baba O'Reilly, Behind Blue Eyes, Won't Get Fooled Again.

It is a truely moving performance, one where the circumstances and the music produce an undeniable "greater than the sum of all parts" energy and emotion that only truely great music can create.

Even if you're not a Who fan, check it out.

I got married Monday, Oct 25, 1982.  Did it the old fashioned way - went to work in the morning, took the afternoon off, went to the City Hall in the afternoon, found a couple of stangers there to be witnesses, then drove up to Oakland to see the Who on what I like to call the first of their "this is our last tour" tours.  Oh, and back to work the next morning with ringing ears.

That was nearly 27 years ago and I don't think the Who have released anything since then.  Well technically I think they released a CD a year or two ago, but to be honest I couldn't tell you the name of it or a single song on it.

They've been milking it for 30 years.  But boy, did they have a hell of a run from late 60s to mid 70s.
