It's a twisted little pleasure, but I love this song. Great job of portraying a snarky attitude.

at first I was going to rate it merely "marginal" ... ie 2 ... but as the song continued.. I said.. no ... no no no no no!!! yuck! evil... garbage.. filth... etc..

That guitar solo at the end has to be the sorriest solo ever recorded.

Really, I thought is sounded like Mission Hill was starting on Adult Swim. |

Of course! That's what's missing from the original - PROFANITY!

Cake tends to be a little too glib for my taste. On this, I get a sense of them thinking, "what's the most uncool song we could make cool?" As much as I didn't like disco, "I Will Survive" was a good song in its original version.

Certainly better than the Robbie Williams "cover".
Nice!

Cool -- this is early enough to still have Greg Brown on guitar. They used to play this one in the bars in Sacramento before they got big. This isn't as strange as him covering a Barry White song though.
Kinda miss Greg on guitar.

I'm just old enough to recall the original, which was pure unadulterated disco/70's crap, but nontheless really was one of the pinnacles of that (annoying) genre, and fun if you just unclench on the anti-disco tightness. As one who enjoys an eclectic mix of intelligent rock, I really think stuff like this cake remix is really fun to listen to (love the bass rif)
really groovey, Dude.

Rock on with the Cake music! Love'em!
Would rather hear "Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps" instead but, their Gloria Gaynor re-make will work for now.

I must not be a youngun, because I knew what it was soon as the goose bumps settled in.. felt like someone scratching fingernails on the chalkboard and speaking the words to the song...
I am crying... and obviously these guys are spending too much time alone!

Yes, it's a vast improvement over the original. No, that doesn't mean it's great. Sort of like upgrading from being beaten with a rock to being beaten with a stick.

Southpark has done a wonderful job pointing out how nobody's been killed by "f**k". It's become an adjective that is used for emphasis... People need to get over a few letters. Dee Snyder was right when he said people that find something dirty in lyrics (or a word) are out looking for something dirty.
This is a sweet cover... and what a cover should be... not a note for note recreation. |

Man, this is awesome. I think what I like the most about this verison is that you can actually hear the lyrics.
