There's some kind of humor in that "rediculous" synth solo, dont you think? Leonard is one of the few REAL poets in the music business. Personally I love his voice.

Does Leonard sing completely sobre or do I hear some alcohol in his voice? Sounds good anyway!

I won't swear he's a teetotaler, but Leonard is a very devout Zen Buddhist. I'm not saying that the Buddhists don't drink, but it gets in the way of their "practice". Hope that helps. Namaste.  {#Meditate}

My first contact with the work of this talent author, singer-songwriter, musician, poet and novelist, was when hearing the "Suzanne" song that it is part of the first album on studio called "Songs of Leonard Cohen", published in1968 (Cohen had 34 years); since i followed always its work there, and proves today that Cohen was very successful in world music; with all the merit! (in this days have 74 years, on last September 21); Congratulations Mr. Cohen!.

** 8 / 9 **

p.s. - and Mr. Leonard Norman Cohen, by the way , who is the Suzanne...?lol

Yeah, seriously. I may admire Leonard for being a great artist, but if I ever heard a songwriter in dire need of some musical guidance, Leonard is the man.

So true!   But doesn't his material have the temperament that just works perfectly in Scandanavia?

Uh, oh.  Neil Young next... speaking of artists in need of musical guidance.

Saw him live in London in July 08 - he played for 3 hours and had amazing stage presence - not bad for an old boy in his seventies, he's still got it!

he does more with "no voice" than 99% of what passes for "hit singers" on the local FM.

Yeah unfortunately Leonard Cohen fell prey to that horrible phenomenon known as 1980's production, from which he still has not fully recovered, his lyrics/songs/voice are all still great but he lost his gypsy/folk edge and I still can't fully enjoy his recent stuff due to the overly slick production.
As an '80s production hater, I know where you are coming from. But this was recorded in '94 and its been 13 years since that - hasn't Leonard moved past that yet??

Leonard's going on tour this year, I'm thrilled and will be trying my darndest to get tickets. This isn't my favourite version of this song, particularly the cheesy synthesizer, but it's good to get some variety on the songs...he can't sing them the same way every time.
