It's about 1980. I'm working in Burger King. In those years, it was at the edge of town. Bozeman, Montana. We're having a Christmas party, exchanging gifts before the assistant manager engages in his usual contributing to our delinquincy and we adjourn to somebody's house to, uh, relax after work. My name has been drawn by the new girl, a spacy, buxom blonde from California. She gives me what is clearly an album. I open it . . . and try to pretend I'm happy to see it's the B-52's. I was into almost exclusively Zep, The Who, and Pink Floyd, with the rare brief excursion into Skynard. I did not want any stinking punk rock album.
Then, I'd have rated it an easy 1.
Today, heck, 6. Maybe 7.
I wonder what became of the California girl?

This is one annoying B-52 that deserves to crash.

Remembering when this came out. Just how fresh and new this was compared to the worn-out crap that was around at the time like Journey, Boston, Toto, et al.

A totally kick-butt beginning to a great album. Everyone should own a copy of the B-52s first album. It is about 38 minutes of pure fun.

I don't like this as much as many other songs. But until time ends, music with this much creativity will be considered an event when broadcast. |

Funny.. just looked at the cd set at amazon..
7 of disk 2's 17 tracks are from Cosmic Thing.. and come to think of it.. that was their highest ranking album wasn't it? I found links showing it at number 9 in the 90's for that year.. of course Milli Vanilli hit #10 the year before.. hmmmm maybe more data should be looked at.. or perhaps billboard's top 100 of a year don't mean that much |

After all these years Fred Schneider still can't sing, but on this song, it works.
She came from Planet Claire,
I knew she came from there.
She drove a Plymouth Satellite
Faster than the speed of light!
Har! Give it an 8 for old time's sake!

Yes and Peter Gun's riif was taken from a leader of a small clan of Australopithecus africanus, banging on a fallen tree trunk with a branch, near the east coast of South Africa, 2.5 million years ago.
WHO CARES !!! IT'S GOOD MUSIC !
