A classic 90s CD, rock-n-roll w/passion at its best. Bittersweet Symphony is what life is all about.....!

A fantastic track off a fantastic album. And as a bonus Richard Ashcroft doesn't have to pay royalties to Jagger-Richards. |

seems like there was such a cool lil mini brit-invasion in the mid-late nineties with excellent, boundary pushing bands like the Verve, Radiohead, Spacehog, and even Oasis to some extent.

Both yes and no, I think. Judging by the previous output of Richard Ashcroft as a solo artist, I think one can easily distinguish between the more mellow Ashcroft-influenced tracks (Sonnet, Lucky Man, One Day...) and the songs where lead guitarist Nick McCabe live out his space age rock'n'roll dreams (Rolling People, Catching the butterfly, Come On...). Which is a good thing in my opinion, the tension and dynamics inbetween the two styles is what makes the album rise from merely "good" to "excellent". :)
The album also contains one of the most achingly beautiful ballads in the world, "The drugs don't work". I have to upload it some day.
Just as the tension and dynamics between Lennon and McCartney gave the Beatles a great sound. McCartney's sweet, sometimes syrupy ballads, against John's rebellious, sometimes angry songs gave them a unique and constantly changing sound. |

The whole album is fantastic. You should get Urban Hymns if you ever get the chance. When I bought it, it was the last copy in the CD store.
You should definitely listen to their other stuff esp. Storm in Heaven. Just incredible.

God, I wish The Verve were still together. "Lucky Man" is one of my favorites of theirs. The Verve were one of the best bends ever.

This song is from the last Verve album that people say is basically a Richard Ashcroft solo album. Either way, it's a great album.
