Holy Moly...I saw them in the early-mid 90's in Giants Stadium, of all places and it was AWESOME. They actually fitted up the whole stadium with huge speakers in every tier (I was in the top one) and it was an incredible mix of a live (yet polished) sound with the various sound effects. not to mention a really cool light show on a circular screen (which you've probably seen in various videos) I believe they went through the entire Dark Side... album. The woman who sang "Great Gig..." was incredible, of course. Great show, despite the big stadium--they totally filled it.

There is a reason why this album has been in the top 500 sales for the past, what? 30 years now. Un-friggin-believable, but actually deserved.

I can't imagine why anyone would think this was less than perfect... powerful intro, beats, lyrics. Sure classic rock radio stations play it out, but they are irrelevant.

Well, that's ironic--this song, these lyrics, on a day I'm spending moslty cruising the RP forums. . . . :-s

Thanks to my own rotation and that of my local "classic rock" (most of its cuts actually neither, but "megaselling crap" just doesn't have the same ring to it, I guess) station, I burned out on Dark Side.

So I stopped listening to it so often. Stopped playing the CD, stopped listening to crummy commercial radio. Now I hear a cut, occasionally, on RP--just often enough to remind me of why I listened to it so much in the first place. Great stuff. And certainly not due for any such thing as retirement. . . .

As a newbie RP enthusiast, I listen to expand my musical horizons by exposure to the new, the different, and the undiscovered (with a tower records across the street, it’s apparent that discovering RP will negatively impact my wallet). But I mostly listen to take in the music that I love, that I know, that stops my fingers on the keyboard and elicits either the wide grin or the closing of the eyes in gratitude, all presented in context with some darn fine sequencing. Given the set lists here, I can’t imagine those brilliantine dinosaurs of the rock canon will ever get enough play in rotation to turn me off, regardless of their tenure on the “classic rock” commercial stations.

isn't it time to retire this and some others from pink floyd? not that i don't LIKE it, its just you can here their stuffs any day of the week on any classic format radiostation. too much.

they don't play things like fearless much on classic radio, but these floyd "staples" get played a lot.

I fail to see what's wrong with playing such brilliant music as this... overplayed or not

Plenty of other Floyd is played here.

You don't retire classics - and it isn't like they're getting overplayed here. The "outside" world? Listen to something else - that shouldn't affect what we hear here.

There's never enough Gilmour, Waters, Wright and Mason in the mix - heard the clock and the smile was instantaneous.

I setup my stereo once to play this song as an alarm. Turned the volume waaaay up the night before, and didn't tell my roommate. :D

Which isn't a good thing to do when your roommate is a boxer with a hot temper.

Puts a new spin on the S&G tune...

Best. Song. Ever.

"So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death. "

If you have a decent internet connection, try downloading "Dark Side of the Rainbow" from a P2P service.

I've lost interest in this song/album. Maybe its because of my own overkill 15 years ago, but I think Animals is a better way to listen to the Floyd.

Press the play button when the lion roars. I can't remember on which roar it is so you may have to try a few times. You will know when you have it cause it flows with the opening credits, and so on till the end of the album.

AMAZING song...

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way.
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.
So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.
Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time.
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over,
Thought I'd something more to say.
