I have got to find that Danny Gatton version! Another brilliant musician, sadly too soon departed. Thanks to all who posted the Peanuts images and provided the stories about Guaraldi and Schultz. |

I'm not that big a fan of Peanuts or the Charlie Brown Christmas show, but I can't help loving this. And it's seasonally appropriate in the Southern Hemisphere.

This tune has it's place...and I do smile when I hear it...but C'mon!!!! Vince Guaraldi has a lot of good stuff! This tune really doesn't need to be played much for a long, long while.

Lee Mendelson, one of the Christmas show's producers, was driving over the Golden Gate Bridge when he heard Guaraldi's "Cast your fate to the wind" on the radio. He contacted Guaraldi to see if he would interested in writing the music to the TV show (it was in production at the time) and Guaraldi readily agreed (he was a huge Peanuts fan). A couple of weeks later, Guaraldi called Mendelson in the middle of the night and played this song over the phone. Guaraldi would go on to write and record all of the music for future "Peanuts" specials. jpfueler wrote: Schultz was a big jazz fan. He was the one who wanted it. My great Uncles Frank and Hank worked for Schultz as animators for the Peanuts specials.
