Indeed, it has swung to its antipode. That's why I really have to wonder what I was thinking when I bought this back in the '80s. I guess its better than other tunes from them, but not by much.

I've always adored the Smiths and this is one of my favourite songs . Love Johnny Marr. Morrissey has never been quite so good solo. |

My first year of college, I was on my school's forensics/debate team. Whenever we'd take road trips to tournaments, one of our coaches would play one of three tapes, "Life's Rich Pageant," by REM, "Stop Making Sense," by Talking Heads, or one by the Smiths. "Time for some music," he'd always say. I'd always root for REM or the Heads. A part of my spirit would die a little whenever he opted for the Smiths. I just never got into them, even though I had many opportunities to try.

Morrissey. Whether you love or hate him, he's very talented and has been a very big influence on hundreds of bands today.

I'm an old school Metal Head and I flipped the first time I heard this song. One of my faves. Great chord progression too. |

Yeah, this album might be "melodramatic" and "sad", but I always found it had a deep, dark humor (humour?) to it...Listened to them tons in HS & college.

Love this!
Morrissey's sweet voice honey coats the bizarre lyrics.
Great melody, too.

well actually I nearly agree. maybe my critical faculties are just wearing out. And there's something about Morrissey's invincible self belief that commands respect.
Ah, the inevitable starting to happen...don't fight it! The Smiths just get better the more you listen to them. It's like a fire that takes a long time to get started, then blazes for hours. |

No, I still would rather be stabbing myself with an icepick, wrapping my brain in tin foil, sanding my corneas, inserting barbed wire through my ear canal, and pouring sulfuric acid down my throat.
Maybe just suggest the above is done to that annoying band... |
