Wow. The first CD I ever bought. Didn't know Aimee went solo. Anyone know some of her disc titles?

Not bad for a late 80's band.
She's got a new album due out this May

I love Aimee today, but this track is awesome -- still brings out emotional shivers. I don't care what any of you ice princes and princesses say.

Hear, hear! I agree completely.

I would so much rather hear more recent Aimee. This sounds like so much sappy 80s mush to me.

This is okay, but the next two TT albums, esp Welcome Home, were so much better. And Aimee's solo work after TT matured quite a bit from this early period.

Didn't even notice it until you said something... now I can't ignore it! Still, good to hear something on RP with an actual percussion section.

That 'sappy 80s mush' as you call it meant a lot to many people back then.

And it still does today for some.

It's just music.

All of a sudden I'm in 10th grade again.

And for this song, that's not a bad thing.

Of course, one of her more unexpected of her career moves (or should I say stunts?) was her guest vocals with Rush on "Time Stand Still" on their CD Hold Your Fire. Now, they don't drop people into their projects for exposure's sake, but because of a musical contribution that they hear - Geddy's voice blended well with Aimee's. What was especially interesting is that live, they played the piece, using samples (plural!) of each word Aimee sang - Geddy played each of her notes/"words" on his pedalboard during the chorus.

Of course, they played it up to the hilt on the video, where the four of them were filmed as 3-D cutouts on whatever backdrops, including Neil on a "floating" drumset and Aimee usually on a sitting video camera. Then again, Rush is know for a sense of humor, lyrics aside.

I've become a big Aimee Mann fan during the past 4 years. I had the great fortune to see her at the House of Blues in Orlando...One of those amazing voices that can't be duplicated...

Also, any chance of adding Coming up Close???

not sure if I gave this an 8 for the song or the memories...I guess I'm also hearing this in a new light since I fell in love with her solo stuff...this is one of her early gems.

Misheard when I was 12 years old: "Goin' downtown, boy is scary" or "Wus, wus, boy's a fairy"

Always liked Aimee's "group" work. I know she was the key, but her collaborators kind of fleshed out the sound.

i remember visiting a good friend up in boston the summer this song first came out, and she lived in the same neighborhood as aimee did back then -- had been through the same high school -- and we used to see her on the T all the time...

Oh, I like her post-Til Tuesday stuff fine. But I submit that Til Tuesday was one of a series of vapid, disposable New York concept bands. Aimee herself, in interviews, has described her involvement with T.T. as more of an impediment than a stimulus to her career, and it took her years to shake it off.

(Yeah, getting national attention and radio airplay is ALWAYS an impediment to one's musical career... Good Lord, she's dumber than I thought...)

I absolutely like this song.

Aimee Mann was an absolute piece of *ss when this came out. Yeah, her stance on online music needs a drastic rework (I say steal early, steal often), but she's cute. You can't expect her to be smart as well...
