I thought this was the Beatles at first, almost turned it off.

In comparison this sounds like some kid pounding out chopstix and the background vocals sound equally childish.
The Stones would definately hit their stride a couple of years later though. They would peter out by the mid 70'> and they've been living off nothing but their name ever since and touring like a bunch of pathetic old geezers. You know, like The Rattling Bones and the Steel Wheelchair tour.
Geez, what a mean thing to say! At least the Stones can still get up and move around. I'd like to see you still be able to perform and tour in your 60s. Do you write your own songs? Maybe you should start before you criticize other people's. |

Absolutely! As well as the: "I love this but haven't heard it in _____ years!" reaction. |

If I was to pick my top 5 favourite Stones songs, this would without doubt be one of them! It makes me feel so happy whenever I listen to it, and it's one of the most uplifting songs I've ever heard! It's better than Gimme Shelter! The part near the end where the instruments get all screwed up is hilarious!

It was borrowed from a Stones single but I don't think that it was "The Last Time" |

From their worst period. Attempting to follow the 'hippie' trend. Not very good at all. I'm glad they got over it quickly though.
BTW steeler; I remember an interview with John Lennon when he explained that it was only after taking a lot of good financial advice from Jagger that the Beatles really started making money.

The Stones, especially Jagger, wanted to market themselves, wanted to make money. The Beatles transcended that impulse; Stones never did.
Jagger got a degree from the London School of Economics--compable to Wharton Biz School. The Beatles weren't able to transcend the impulse to make a few movies, or get placed on the occasional lunchbox(MY sister had one). None of these guys were, or wanted to be, starving artists. What's my point? I have no idea. |

agree--this is a standout on an otherwise awful Stones album. |

The irony of course was that the Beatles except for Ringo were working class stiffs and the Stones were basically a bunch of middle class kids playing at "bad boy". Still, while Brian Jones was with them, they produced some awesome music. Afterwords, it went downhill precipitously with a few exceptions.
wasn't Lennon from an upper-middle class background? i don't think class has much to do with it. One had ideas to burn. The other ran out, but still wanted to work. |

My favorite RS song! Not played enough....but come to think of it, that may have to do with the reason it is my favorite!?
"Have you seen a lady fairer?"
"Have you seen her all in gold....she shoots colors all around like the sunlight coming down."
