Rush plays to huge audiences everywhere in the world. That has dick all to do with CanCon, and everything to do with the fact that they're a great band who, for my money, is one of the best touring acts on earth.
I´m with you...saw them here in Chile end of 2010 and the memories are still vivid. Mind you, I could have done without the hoax TV soap opera on the big screens and everything to do with RASH. I assume it has to do with the demographics of the audience and that their producers feel we need to be entertained with other stuff... Cool anecdote from that gig: Neil Peart came by way of motorbike to Santiago the same day of the gig from Buenos Aires accross the Andes...what a rock and roller. |

The voice actually belonged to Mark Daley, "The Voice of Toronto" from City TV. He died last year, and for Toronto it was a loss like Harry Caray must have been for Chicago. Couldn't help noticing the comments about beer. Budweiser and Labatts Blue are to beer what Clear Channel is to Radio —- mass produced garbage. I have done my share of drinking in cities all over the US and Canada, though, and there is good locally/regionally brewed beer to be found in every one of them. The Belgians have everybody beat, though —- there is a bar in Brussels called La Morte Subite with 1,100 kinds of beer. I spent two days in there and I can tell you that if you are a beer lover, this place is Mecca. |

Actually it was the other way around, but I'd agree most American and Canadian beer is pretty bad with the exception of some of the microbrews. I'll take a Stella, Becks, Sapporo, Guinness or Kilkenny any day! As for Rush, they're my least favourite band on RP; sigh. |

Sprawling on the fringes of the city In geometric order An insulated border In between the bright lights And the far unlit unknown
Growing up it all seems so one-sided Opinions all provided The future pre-decided Detached and subdivided In the mass production zone
Nowhere is the dreamer Or the misfit so alone
Subdivisions - In the high school halls In the shopping malls Conform or be cast out Subdivisions - In the basement bars In the backs of cars Be cool or be cast out Any escape might help to smooth The unattractive truth But the suburbs have no charms to soothe The restless dreams of youth
Drawn like moths we drift into the city The timeless old attraction Cruising for the action Lit up like a firefly Just to feel the living night
Some will sell their dreams for small desires Or lose the race to rats Get caught in ticking traps And start to dream of somewhere To relax their restless flight
Somewhere out of a memory Of lighted streets on quiet nights...
Subdivisions - In the high school halls In the shopping malls Conform or be cast out Subdivisions - In the basement bars In the backs of cars Be cool or be cast out Any escape might help to smooth The unattractive truth But the suburbs have no charms to soothe The restless dreams of youth
Well written. |

Then again, if you lay awake at night obsessed with thinking of reasons why you are so much better than Americans, maybe you're Canadian after all. |

I really like Rush. Talented individuals. This song is filler. They are capable of so much more dynamic. Example..."Show Don't Tell" from Presto is awesome for energy and syncopation. Oh well...I'll take what I get and shut up now. Too late...right?

Rush takes a lot of crap around here, but there's a reason they're still selling out arenas after almost 40 years together. This is a GREAT song.
