This is a wonderful tune. The vocals are outstanding.

This song is one of my all-time favorites - it mellows me out, makes me take a deep breath and enjoy life a little more. Sheila's voice is unique in its beauty and vibe.

Is this a cover, or a remake by the original artist?

The original I belive is the Hindi version of it. This version is light "and in english".. Otherwise an awsome headphone treat. There is also a techno like version by Monsoon. It's very fast and upbeat techno like but some of the vocals are awsome.

Ah, and according to AMG

Sheila Chandra began recording as a teenager in Monsoon.

I guess that answers my question :-)
Thanks!

Wow! Been a while since this was played. I first came across this on NetRadio about three years ago. I bought the CD and it's enchanting.

Thumbs up!!!

It could transport me, especially with headphones on. You have no idea how nice it is to hear a station that isn't afraid to program this next to something that rocks out hard. On this mix I would have skipped the Sister7 afterwards and gone straight to the Yardbirds though. :p

Uhhhh.... ya mean "diatonic," don't you? Sorry.

If you like this, you have to check out Dead Can Dance. Great!

I first heard this on a mix tape I received from a friend years ago. It came right after Peter Murphy's Cuts You Up....so now every time I hear Cuts You Up, I think of this song immediately afterwards. :)

Though it does seem as though she lifted the metaphor for Ocean straight from Pete Townshend's "The Sea Refuses no River"...

"Your Ocean Refuses No River"...

Reminds me a bit (lyrically) of Pete Townshend's "The Sea Refuses No River"

Perhaps they are both drawing lyrical ideas from the same source?

She has a beautiful voice. Most of the songs I've heard from her are just plainsong, just her voice, little or no instrumentation . :)

Nice break up in the mix - a bit different sound. And short - not drawn out.
