Enchiladas are not Cuban food.
I went to the store to buy this CD a few yearsa ago. They had the DVD on sale cheaper than the CD. Easy choice. This singer is a remarkable man.

Send that message to Bush also... just because a country is communist doesn't mean we need to fear communism or prevent their country from being communist. We don't need to be forcing our democratic preferences on other nations; shouldn't be our problem. |

the documentary about the making of this album is really worth a watch. I know that the occasional subtitles can be annoying to some but the message is worth the (very minor) effort. I challenge you to not be affected by the stark existence in modern Cuba. Please, let's end the silly political games, Mr. Castro. Let your people be FREE!!!!!!!!!

Wow. I know I listened to BVSC once through a few years back but don't remember any of it. This is a groove I can get hooked on.

Wonderfully laidback, I like music that is not in a hurry anywhere. Got to love that trumpet! :)

triath wrote:Why is the artist labeled as "Eliades Ochoa" when it's the Buena Vista Social Club? I know he's their guitarist, but it's on the band's CD. The modern (Ry Cooder) version of the Buena Vista Social Club is sort of a fiction, like the Monkees. Sure, they toured as BVSC a little, but really the way to think of it is individual artists who share and play in each other's backing band. Eliades Ochoa has many solo albums, from before and after Ry, as do many of the BVSC players.
That said, if you buy an Ochoa album with this song "Chan Chan" on it, it will be a different version. Not necessarily a bad thing... |

I have always loved this song, but I didn't realize how amazing it was until we listened to it in one of my music theory classes. Trying to find the measure and beat(s) for this song can be... difficult. Despite that, it's still mellow and wonderful to listen to.

I love this song. I can't wait until Cuba is open to Americans. Warm people, classic cars, beautiful beaches and great music.

No, but for a while there it was on everybody's list of albums to have just to show how cool you could be. So lots of people won't claim it. It's a terrific film though, and the soundtrack takes on more meaning after seeing it. |
