Should play "A Different Drum" from this album. It's even better.... (Not complaining about this one, though!) |

My two denarii worth is that since it was tied to the movie, it went the way of other movie themes which were good but not great. However, you never know about those sneaky one-worlders, either. Whatever, it was a "mystery". Of course, now, it isn't since I've opined.
Thanks to Misterfixit for clearing up the mystery, at least to me. My vote goes to al-Quedisilla. I'm feeling both fearful and hungry. |

What was controversial about the movie? I'd not heard of it before now. This is a good, elemental-feeling instrumental which might grow on me. An initial 6 from the Nottingham jury which has, through RP, learnt to disassociate Peter Gabriel from the pompous pretentious excrescence on the body musical that was Genesis. On his own he produces some really good stuff, and has my eternal gratitude for helping to bring about the Afro Celt Sound System. |

Passion (soundtrack to "The Last Temptation of Christ") is excellent throughout, incorporating sounds from performers throughout North Africa and the Middle East. There are even better tracks on the album ("A Different Drum" and "It is Accomplished" being my faves). Other tracks can be heard here:

Gabriel subsequently produced an album called "Passion Sources" featuring the original (ethnic traditional) music from which individual tracks on the film soundtrack were inspired. Here's an example from (Egyptian) Hossam Ramzy:

andycollingridge wrote:This track, as with the album as a whole, is a superb melange of world music's eclecticism and rhythmic drive with the delicate, self-referential structures of the best modern orchestral music, all mixed together with Gabriel's understanding of how to make 'big' music not sound overly bombastic. A gem.
