There is no racist intent in Mr. Ridgway's song, nor ZZ Top's either. The 'X' stations were quite famous, and broke a lot of top hits that later made it to 'mainstream' radio.

91X in San Diego still broadcasts from Mexico. |

Some stations in San Diego, like Mighty 690 AM used to broadcast out from Tijuana, because I think there's no limits on broadcast strength. So does this mean Stan Ridgeway was all happy about being on Mighty 690? And for those too young to remember: AM 690 played pop music up until around '82-'83. They later became a sports talk station.

Some one-hit-wonders merit a GODLIKE 10 rating for the sheer sake of it. This one does.

This song will always be the memory of living in the same house with four of my best friends in the summer of 82'. MTV was the new thing and if you had the killer stereo hook up, you could play the music through your system and watch the video AT THE SAME TIME!

ya The Big Heat is a fantastic album- Just Drive She Said! This album is really good too. I especially like Lost Weekend and the title track. I've been a WoV fan for years and even saw them live a few times back in the 80s- they used to put on a really amusing frenetic live show and their percussionist/drummer Joe Nanini had this unreal set up, along with the traditional kit he had these racks of strange objects (pots, pans, mailboxes, trash can lids etc) and he played on everything at pretty much the speed of light Good times |
