I hate that "aaaa-aaa-aaa rmour" part. Wrecks it for me. Dagnabit. Not my favourite S&G. "hazy shade of winter", now.....

I'm so glad I'm not a dorky 14 year old anymore. The song's still good, and it feels nice to hear it and chuckle at the sentiment. Agree with John Donne, I'm part of the Continent, after all.

It worked for me like that back when. I used to think this was the coolest song to call my own theme song. It didn't stay my theme song, I'm glad to say.

My theme song through most of high school. At the time, I didn't hear the irony. . . .

I live near Yale and I when I hear this song I always picture some moody college student writing this song in his journal.
Weird, I know.
I still love it!

Anybody know what came first, this song from Simon & Garfunkel or the sound that I think that came later from bands like the Byrds "Turn, turn, turn.." I know S&G are older, and this sounds like it's one of their earlier songs, so I beleive this to be true. Please feel free to correct me, I haven't looked it up. If true, S&G were pioneers in a few "sounds"

now that pure pop with intelligent lyrics is once again en vogue, we can appreciate stuff like this.

Pity the music falls a bit on the wayside....

I literally hear the outcry "sacriledge", but sorry, I don't think too much of the instrumentation and overall quality of the tune.

Might have been a better poem.... :D but like this, I give it a 6.

Goodness, whether it's S&G or PS by himself, I just really love it.

Yes, PS may have written most of it, and played the guitar, but ole' Art does have some very pleasant harmonies to add.

BO-ring!

I momemtarily enjoyed "Song of Silence" way, way back there in 7th grade ('66) but, other than that, could never stomach S&G.

Paul Simon's post S&G work I own and like, but I don't ever need to hear S&G ever again. Thanks just the same.

I've always been under the impression that this song was inspired by John Donne's Meditation XVII, specifically this part:

"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were: any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee."

Any thoughts?

Yes, definitely works for that, like a suit of emotional armor. And, the beauty of it is that it somehow leads you out of it. Sublime.

Just a tad less S & G. There's so much more good music from today to be heard.

Very good lyrics, serves me well as a wake up call to snap out of it when I have one of my more cynical days. No need for that today though. ;)
