I disagree. Due to the "eclectic" nature of Bill's menu, I think it comes as a little, welcome surprise to most of us.
And besides, what the heck, it's just two minutes long.

Little Richard is from Macon (my city of residence) and recently returned for the first time in almost 50 years. Local lore says he was run out on a rail after he initially became popular due to some of his indescretions. I cannot believe it took 50 years for a city to formally embrace a music pioneer besides the street named after him years ago (which is about 200 yards long).

Agreed, one of the forces that changed the face of popular music and thus of the US itself in the 1950s. A real pioneer of rock and roll.

"with only fifteen minutes left in the session, "Tutti Fruiti, good booty" became "Tutti Fruiti, aw-rootie"."

The original version was too lewd for young impressionable minds...

I heard a RUMOR that 'rootie' is 'Rudy', for Rudy Martinez, aka Question Mark (and the Mysterians), of "96 Tears" fame, but the timing may be off.

Little Richard is still awesome.

Has anyone seen the totally lame Pat Boone performance of this?

I've heard an anecdote that Little Richard's rapid-fire "jumped back in the alley" from "Long Tall Sally" was a challenge of sorts to Boone, in response to the watered-down Tutti Frutti. He figured Boone wouldn't be able to wrap his tongue around that line, certainly not at the same speed.

I love the song but I hate to hear it here. Might as well play "Old Time Rock and Roll". :puke:

Eclectic, no. Overplayed, yes.

Not my fav LR song by far, but he gets a 10 out of sheer respect. Basically, ripped off by everyone and paid by no one.

Does anyone remember Pat Boone's CD "In a Metal Mood" that came out in the late 90's? It was Las Vegas Lounge Act cover versions of great hard rock classics. Man, was that dreadfully & frighteningly bad!!! :puke:

If you like that, you're gonna love Richard Cheese.
