Well now, hang on there. I swear he changed the words to my favorite line in this version: Doesn't the original go "...face splashed in the sky" and this version is "...face flashed in the sky". I expect a response within thirty seconds from you interweb dweebs. {#Smile}

Ok.....I love Powderfinger....also the Cowboy Junkies version.....but.....can anyone tell me where the "action" tyook place and what was going on? I think it may have been written about the  the  Civil War era???

This song really came alive after reading thousands of pages of "Killing Mr. Watson" by Peter Matthieson. That story takes place in the Florida Everglades. The story of this song is imaginable in any backwater where "mountain people" still thrive. In era, I can imagine any time between early 19th century and late 20th century U.S.

I cannot agree! Bills Team always look for new artists,. Its difficult to find , but there are some good ones. For me, the 30 years old music is old, but not tired. This song is old. And tired. I notice a lot of RP listeners hold on tightly to music from 30 years ago. Look at there favorite lists and you're rarely see new artists.

Say you like a song very much today. 30 years from now you still like it. Do you have a problem with still liking it :^) ? Mozart or Beethoven bother you for being rather distinctly old? Everything ages and passes. Some songs to some people will always sound great. Not worth getting hung up on, imho. Oh, Christ! He's playing Billie Effing Holiday now! Talk about old!
Chill, bro. Plenty to enjoy here. Peace.

Are they the ones that hang out with bad asian drivers, watermelon chompin' blacks, whites that can't play the blues, gays who can't fight and women who can't think? - 'cause those guys are lame!

Love Neil Young. Prefer the album version to this live one. But I actually prefer the Cowboy Junkies' version over any of Neil's! Blasphemy? Listen and tell me then. She makes us feel that she *is* that young man standing on the dock, with the rifle to her eye.

I like the Beat Farmer's version (first version I ever heard).  Haven't heard the Cowboy Junkies version.

True that with some but not so with me, my friend. I embrace the old and the new.

Besides that by your statement - every song will eventually become old and tired. You can't just discount timeless material because you happened to hear it so much that you're sick of it and it doesn't sound fresh. It was, at one time - fresh and powerful and distinctive, original and as moving as anything you may have heard at that point in your life. To simply shrug it off years later as boring is shallow on your part.

Just sayin.
