I like the other, actually, but this one blew my mind when I first found it in the early days of napster... I now own the single it's on (I forget what single it is, though.. heh)
Original: 5.5
Quiet: 8 |

Great version! I like the tension this version presents as opposed to the 'original' (fyi - this version came out on a cd single before the album was released). I always found the album version to be a Sledgehammer "rip off".

I like the slower tempo on this er... cover? remix?... I know, I'll call it "Steam: Revisited"... that'll do.
I also listen hoping he'll explode his vocals like the original, but hey. Can't really knock it.
It IS Peter Gabriel |

Makes sense - especially with the energic versions remembered. This version is a bit U2 to me.

Melloril, I must have accidentally taken Melloril - oh, it's a tired Peter Gabriel self-cover, phew!

I was surprised that this was Peter Gabriel. I almost thought it was Roger Waters by the intonation.
Beautiful tune.

As good as Steam may have been, too much radio play killed it. I really like the alternate.

I prefer the groove of the original. However, the worst from Peter easily surpasses the best from so many others. No complaints.

I didn't even recognize it as Gabriel at first.
Really interesting alternate take -- certainly better than what Clapton did to "Layla." This actually has more of a "steamy" quality than the original. And the tension one feels hearing PG literally pulliing back on his own voice is palpable. I llke it! |

Digging In The Dirt EP, not the album. See credits above.
After so many iterations of this theme, a quiet version really doesn't save it for me. Not that it's bad (it's PG after all), but there's so much more of his catalog I'd rather listen to. Likeable at best. |
