"The cowbell as a symbol of unbridled passion" - Frank Zappa
It's old, never heard it before in my life, but it kicks! |

Cool! I did that too, my parents had Wake Up Little Susie on 45 but I can't remember if it was the Everly Brothers' version or Buddy Holly & the Crickets (?)

I STILL have the 45. But the unfortunate thing is, it's the short version...remember when they released edited versions as singles? Remember singles? Remember when there were Chambers Brothers, Isley Brothers, Brothers Johnson, Dr. Joyce Brothers? Does anybody remember laughter? I think this song is causing a drug flashback...and I didn't even take the drugs in the first place. |

One of the first 45s I remember, too. My friend's older brother had this and Secret Agent Man by Johnny Rivers...what a weird pair of singles...nevertheless, we played them over and over until you could almost see through the grooves! Ah, the memories of the aged... my first 45 was dave alvin and the arrows "blues theme". what an awesome instrumental from that old biker flick. i would play it at 33 rpm to listen to each cylinder of that harly firing in slow motion! and you know what? i still got it! :nodhead: |

This song annoys the crap out of me but I can see how others would like it. It has an original and instantly recognizable sound so I'll give it a 5. I wish I liked the song more though.

Regarding the drummer being white, that is...
Yeah, not only white, but I remember, he was a redhead. I met him once - in bed with my roommate when they played DC in 1969. (We shared a studio - pretty strange situation. He was cool about it. He and my date talked sports for a while.)

I saw them when I was 16, 1968 at the Flushing Meadows Singer Bowl (from the 1964 Worlds Fair). They were with the Soft Machine, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. My first concert - quite a show to start off with.
