yes, compared to what passes for country music these days, a high score would be warranted - but in the context of Paradise I can only give it a 5. |

I thank the dixie chicks for speaking their mind. And i like their music as well. Just because it is country doesn't mean it has to suck. Even though i agree, most contemporary country has lost its soul. If you want to see just how good country can get, check out Niko Case....

The Dixie Chicks ain't country... well, maybe if you nix the "o" in "country"
Remember when country music was good and drunk and ugly? Before the Dixie Chix were even born, and before Garth Brooks was old enough to grow his first mullett???
Never mind their politics... just don't play the Dixie Chicks on general principles!!!

then again, maybe you just don't get it.
your comments are none other than an expanded reiteration of what i already replied to. i think you are jumping to too many conclusions about what my understanding of lyrics are and how i apply them to daily life.(2112 is science fiction by the way, by its very nature means fiction based on plausible theories). i believe pearts lyrics are amazing. in theory, life would be grand if all could be as he professes. i also have a life to live. there is no utopia! that doesnt mean i cannot believe in his lyrics, nor does it mean i cannot tell you when a song stinks and why.
when its all said and done, music is for entertainment, not a way of life! now if lyrics are your only basis for liking an artist or song, have at it! but, dont tell me you know who i am and how i should act based on my preferance in lyrics.
the larger irony is how the first amendment only applies to those that support what you believe. others like myself are scrutinized.
:) have a nice day! |

Yeah, i hear you. And this whole thing about "cross-over". With Shania Twain and Garth Brooks, etc. It all sounds like watered down pop and rock. Screw that, give me the real deal. and whats funny is when a rock musician makes a country tune, it sounds better than what anyone else could do! |

Whats going on with country music today is complete souless crap. I'm not a country fan by any means, but i'd much rather hear stuff like Willie Nelson or even Johnny Cash than this |

I have a version of Patty doing this song - also excellent. More subdued. |

:)
The problem with Moveon is that their recent ads(perhaps all of them) dealt with Fox and Murdoch. That's a loser. Although i don't care for fox, I know a lot of people both conservative and otherwise that like them.
And the arguement about the smalltown where all the stations were clearchannel wasn't great.
Better is to use Dallas. Where we have a Classic Rock, Modern Rock, Rock/hard rock, 80's/90's "Mix", and top 40 station (to name just a few) stations, and they're all Clear Channel. I'm not sure how many of the country stations are owned by them as well, but it's at least 1 and may be 2.
They own a few talk radio stations as well.
The only station that competes that's not owned by them is "the Bone," which is a classic rock variant.
Those that argue for consolidation will say that this proves that another voice wont' change anything.
I'd argue that the reason there's so much homogenous crap formats is because all these huge corps paid so much for the stations that they have to pander to the LCD so as to generate enough money.
I know that the quality of the modern rock station has gotten progressively worse in the 6 years I've been here....I don't believe CC (AM/FM and Chancellor before that) always owned the station.

Not being a fan, what do I know, but I was under the impression that prior to Maines joining the band, this is what they were doing on the streets of dallas.
What's more, I thought that the reason for the more traditional bluegrass sound was more a tribute to bluegrass than anything else. There might be a slight political statement about the state of country radio. I don't listen to country radio, but I can't imagine that Clear Channel is doing a better job there than they are on their other formats.
