Red Hot Chili Peppers take note: Al Green managed to write the same song over and over again, but they're all fantastic! Figure out what he did, and try that.

They will need Willie Mitchell to do this!!!

Nice timing on the lyric "Love will make you wanna dance".
Me and Al started working it simultaneously.

It's a parody of 70s music, right? The boom shakalaka, electric organ wipes, horns, backup singers--it's like John Travolta remade Saturday Night Fever, only as a comedy this time.

The original release date for this song (according to Amazon) was April 1, 1975. The original release date for Saturday Night Fever (according to IMDB) was December 14, 1977 - more than two and a half years after Mr. Green's song. So technically, if any parody was taking place, it would be Saturday taking on Love & Happiness.

See? Even when it's a song you can hear anywhere (as several RP listeners have pointed out), you can learn something new about it. I'll let someone else point out the intrinsic differences between R&B and disco. I've wasted too much time putting you in your place as it is.

Seems to me if he's such a genius, he'd do a little bit of research before he put that big ol' foot in that big ol' mouth. You have to have Internet access to listen to RP, I'm guessing? Anyone can do the research that cattgirl813 did by just plugging into a search engine--you don't even have to be a genius.

You need to go back to the drawing board. Exemplary grooving here. If the "herd" digs it, then for once the collective has fine taste.

I think the 8.2 rating on this song has a lot to do with the herd mentality. With a crappy disco sound like "Love and Happiness", it HAS to be good.

Saturday Night Fever wasn't a comedy?!?

I think the 8.2 rating on this song has a lot to do with the herd mentality. With a crappy disco sound like "Love and Happiness", it HAS to be good.

Abhor the genre, the lack of melody, the whininess of the voices, the generally sleazy topics characteristic of R&B and soul.

However, having said all that, I must agree with the commentators who praised the work of the brass instruments. They are really on target!

I am trying not to turn this genre off every single time. I realize that I have to try to learn to tolerate it.

(Now you have followed up with my heroine Joan Osborne, and I am a whole lot happier!)

And just where do you think Joan Osborne came up with her sultry and soulful style? Hmmmm???
