Um...It's now 1 3/4 years since you wrote this and Jack Johnson is still around. Maybe he'll disappear over the next few months or so? :-k
Edit: Sticking with the Amazon rankings theme Jack Johnson's new album ( In Between Dreams) is currently #2.

This has the same feel as Steve Miller's "The Joker". Similiar bass line and progression....

This is a very likeable song, in fact I really like listening to JJ's music. It is not over studiofied. Good music. Good drums. |

Ah, gypsy, you got me laughing, even where monkeybrains could not. Thanks. The way the iota's been dropping lately, I'm moving to smidgens anyway.
I stand by my prior assessment. Mensa material, Jack is not, but I do find him entertaining...or at least likeable. |

I really enjoy Jack, nice different sound. Good rhythms too, I have picked up some of the more creative uses of the bell on the ride cymbal. Tasty

Jack Johnson = "beach bum/surfer dude" vibe for 20-40 yr olds.
Margaritaville guy = "Florida barfly" vibe for 30-60 yr olds. I also refer to his music as "Key Western".

Funny, all the comments about this being overplayed--I've never heard it in my life until just now. No, I don't listen to a lot of commercial radio, and what little I do lately is the one twelve-songs "classic rock" station I get, scratchily, out here in the sticks. So to my fresh ears . . . pretty good!

Saw Jack at the Blues and Roots Festival in Australia a few years ago, he really rocked it out! Makes me remember the good days of being a beach bum while studying abroad. Good choice!

You make me laugh! I like the picture you painted, but I still like both of those artists.
You should watch "Touching the Void", this climber dude with a broken leg is about to die and he has this crappy song stuck in his head. |

The thing that makes this song special to me the most is the interaction between the drums and the guitar.
It's got a lot of the Steve Miller sound, only then more contemporary, of course. Take the Money and Run, especially.

Does every Jack Johnson song sound the basically the same? Somebody in my office has the CD and each song sounds like the one before it.
Not impressed.
If one was like this... fine. Not all.

Well Roverfish, I guess that makes all the difference in the world. If any of this were of consequence, I guess I'd feel the same way and be watching ABC, CBS, and NBC with all that cheesy stuff that the masses like too. Your same argument could be used for Britney Spears for crying out loud.

Hi, my name is Jack Johnson. I can play three cords on the guitar. I am sort of a rapper, and I love using repetitive, sophomoronic verses in all of my songs. In fact, I strive to make all of my songs sound alike. Act now, and I will include a FREE stick of bubble gum and a FREE Kiss poster with your CD purchase.
PLEASE STOP PLAYING THIS IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
