At first, I thought this lyric was something about the flag, which always seemed out of place for me. But if you think about it, and imagine the scene, she's wearing white clothing (a dress of some sort probably), with blood all over it, with blue sky and water. Also white clouds. The scene would be red, white and blue. Really beautiful imagery.
Reminds me of an Edie Brickell & New Bohemians lyric about a man who kills his friend after finding out his wife cheated with the friend.
The ground was red
The ground was white
And blue was the color of the sky

I like it. Wonder how long it will be before some RPer names a kid Alban or Amandy in honor. . . ?

I never listened to the lyrics. Just enjoyed the melody and the groove. I may have to start paying attention! For the listener who spoke of the band's name. Taken from Brando's MC group in The Wild One-from around 1951--in case this hasn't already been mentioned... |

Subdued power in tones and lyrics. Vocals to kill, also.

Huh, yeah, I kinda like this. For some reason, the name of the band did not lead me to expect much, but this has kind of a low-key force to it. Nice.

(A day short of 1 year later, I like this group's haunting sound even better than before! Besides the brilliant instrumentation, it's the wonder of their vocal harmonization!!!)

Great song - great CD - excellently blended harmonies - similar to the Indigo Girls blend. My only complaint about the CD in general is that it's a tad overproduced. Overall, though, fantastic.
Robbie Robertson "discovered" them...

I agree. When I first heard this I thought Sandy Denny immediately. |

Another one of those bands I got turned onto on this station that I probably wouldn't have heard of otherwise. Excellent song, lovely CD. Thanx.

This whole CD is great. I bought it last weekend and I love it.
This is still one of my favorite songs on the CD. |

WOW! Another great song from this band.
I don't think I've heard a song of theirs yet that I haven't liked. I must buy the CD.
My partner won a copy of this CD at the RP Spring Fling. The whole album is great. I was not disappointed in the least.

Beautiful... I LOVE this track!!! I bought the album based on what I've heard on RP and in spite of playing the album a LOT every track is still a gem and can listen to over and over again...

i can understand this feeling. while i enjoy eastmountainsouth, their music sounds kinda the same after a while. it's nice to hear a sprinkle of them, rather than a long block of nothing but them, i'm sure. heh. |

In an odd way, they really put me in mind of some of Pentangle's earlier works. The words may be ancient, but the flavouring is all modern.

Wonder what the second will be like.

Mercifully short. I was just thinking that this needed to end and it did.
Who could dispute thought that they know how to pick a catchy band name and Song title.

Album notes say he didn't play, but I'd swear I hear Robbie Robertson on guitar (he executive produced).
Nice rework of a traditional tune (that Barry Manilow had nothing to do with! ).
