If this is the only song of his that you know, well....you don't get out much, do you? It doesn't lend much credence to your depth of knowledge on the other subject, either.

I guess if I dug in your ass I would find other songs of his...........but even if I liked digging in ass it wouldn't be worth it to hear his crap. (***DELETED***) He has alligned himself with the very people that are killing our citizens and soldiers. (***DELETED***) As far as my depth of knowledge on the "other subject", my government security clearance will not allow me to enlighten you naive one.

Harry can suck it......

Ever heard any of his other songs? Me neither because there are none worth listening to.

One hit wonder (if that is what you call it)

What else has he done?.................

Oh yeah, alligned with other American hating countries and their leaders some with Islamic terrorist ties in support of Jihad and engaged with our enemy promoting and spewing forth American hatred.

No, he has another silly song - "There's a Hole in the Bucket." I think it was a duet with Ella Fitzgerald or someone like that (not that there's anyone like that).

Edit: further research has revealed that the second member of Harry's duet for the Hole in the Bucket ditty was Odetta.

But I use that song as an example of a circuitous argument to this day.

This song always reminds me of that silly scene in Beetlejuice. Silly movie. But fun.

Yah, only the coast is 'liberal'. For the first time this last presidential election, LA joined SF in the vote. Honestly, forget liberal vs. conservative, if I was an African American man born in the 20's like Mr. Belafonte, I might have a very different take on politics than the average US citizen.

As someone who lives in LA I'd be considered pretty liberal compared to most of the US population, but I just find Belafonte's politics so reprehensible that I can not enjoy his music (as opposed to someone like Cat Stevens who I still enjoy even though I was dissapointed by the path he chose.)

There is plenty to criticize about the current US regime, but if he honestly thinks Chavez's brand of government is morally superior to the US then I have to question his sanity. To me he comes off as very spiteful towards the US.

A good liberal would not throw accusations without citing some evidence for them. Why isn't Chavez' government morally superior?

Gas is a hell of a lot cheaper...and as far as Belafonte saying Chavez' government is "morally superior" - doesn't take much these days to beat our government. Hardly a radical statement anymore, unfortunately.

This is why I try to never let the artist get in the way of their art. My interpretation of their art can (if I don't let it) have nothing to do with the artist. It isn't easy, but whenever you watch an interview, public appearance etc. you risk ruining things for yourself.

I heard "Come Mr Taleban"

Puts the song in a whole new perspective

It's "Come Mr. Tally-man"-- meaning the man who tallies the length of the stalks of bananas ("six foot, seven foot, eight foot bunch") and determines how much the banana plantation workers will get paid for their day's (or in this case night's) work. Banana plantation workers work at night because it's so hot in those tropical climates: "Work all night on a drink of rum... daylight come and me wanna go home."
