Tempo is dragging. Too prettified. I hate these kinds of covers. No musical merit, other than the adaquate instrumentation.

I can't believe that any of the Greatful Dead would like this version.

This just sounds like the Dead, but a little tired. So what's the point?

OK, it's a good cover, but two days in a row is a little much for any one song. :-)

I am sure that fanatics will send assasins, but I think I'm going to get this album so I can hear some great songs without that guy's whiney nasal voice from G.D.

This is a wonderful album, and I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys the Dead. This Lyle Lovett song is not even the best cover on the disk.

The Indigo Girls, Elvis Costello, and so many other bands are on it. It is quite amazing.

2:43 pm - Los Lobos - Bertha
2:39 pm - Lyle Lovett - Friend Of The Devil
2:35 pm - Joan Osborne - Brokedown Palace

Is it the Day of the Dead today?

I like this disc, and it's nice to hear two songs in a row from it.

I hope this little "Dead Cover Set" ends with some real Dead. Most covers don't stack up.

My favorite Dead cover! Bought this tape on my way out west on a family trip back in '91. My daughter has always been a Dead fan. Her only Dead concert was in utero. She and I were in LA looking at colleges when Gerry went down. Sad day.

Contrary to the public opinion on RP, I have to say that I do not care for this song, Lyle's rendition of it. The DEAD do it best, it is a song of running away from that which there is no escape. The only thing moving about this song is the hope, the hope that it will end.

And it did.

Thank God.

Solid 1.

Are you kidding? LL owns this song. Since when does a song have to be up-tempo to be good? This version hits the spot.

Must admit I was glad to see that Lyle Lovett didn't write this song - seems pretty lackluster compared to his own work.

How the heck am I supposed to work this afternoon when I'm all teary-eyed listening to Lyle doing the Dead, the Dead doing Ripple live, the Band, Neil Young, Boz Scaggs, all this stuff that brings back bittersweet memories?!
