Heard these guys first on RP in '04.  Great indie effort IMO! The artists even sent me a free copy of their CD.

So, I don't have much of a reaction one way or another to this kind of thing; I'm interested to know what provokes such a strong reaction — seriously, I'm interested; educate me.

To my ears, it's mildly (very mildly, actually) pleasant elevator music.  Don't hate it, don't love it.

All; the irritating Sarah McMlachlan tricks without the big voice to make them forgivable enough to tolerate.

Thanks for the links Scott. I just downloaded and played my copies of Wishes and Little Lights. Nice!

Windows Media Player says both of these tracks are recorded at 160 Kb/sec. Why then does the bass sound so bad? Overdriven microphones or amplifiers maybe? Not to quibble with getting free music though! (Turning down the 31 Hz and 62 Hz sliders on Media Player helped some on Wishes - but not on Little Lights.)

The band's web site, www.kolida.net says to email them and they will send you the links. I didn't try it myself so I can't vouch for whether or not it will work.
