I for one initially found this to be 'too country' for my taste....her haunting voice is really growing on me though.

Dear Neko,

You can't sing like me, you'll never sing like me, quit trying to sing like me. You sound like a cat stuck in a drainpipe.

Love,

Neko's going to be in Chicago in a couple of weeks, in a smallish venue.  I can't wait and I'm really excited because my hubby, who doesn't get Neko, will be out of town so I can just go and enjoy myself.  Glad his high school reunion is that weekend!

Yup, same here. I loathe country and/or Western, but love Neko Case - her voice gives me goose pimples. And yes, I do like the reverb. 8 from the Nottingham jury.

Because she's a wildly over-rated "talent" who can't sing so her producers use every trick in the book to cover it up?

I wouldn't call it country cause she's not singing about her truck, her deadbeat man, or her dog. Big difference.

I do not know how you can say she isn't country, the minor keys? the yodel? The only reason it is pointless to label, is because, while the station calls itself rock, it actually plays very little actual rock.

where does it says this is a rock station? i haven't seen that in the description since, oh, about 2001...

Also no banjo or dobro, and violins instead of 'fiddles'.

I had to bump this to a 10. Wow.

Now, you kids who're calling this 'Country', or worse, 'Country and Western', seem kinda behind the power curve here. The day Neko Case is played on a 'country' station, we'll be throwin' snowballs in Miami.

Trying to put a label on Ms. Case, indeed on MOST artists here, is pretty pointless.

I'll second that - I usually can't bear anything that whiffs even slighty of C and/or W, but she has such a haunting voice that gets right deep down and brings out goose pimples. She does what all good music should do, scares me. Of all the songs of hers played on RP, I don't think I've given any less than 7. Time to splash out on a CD I think, if I can get her this side of the Pond... 8 from the Nottingham jury.
