Anyone else thinks its funny that AliGator is correcting Crockydile?
By the way AliGator has a point. When the first Lloyd Cole and the Commotions album rattlesnakes came out in 1984 Ben Gibbard was 8 years old.

Well young Ben was a talent wasn't he?

Better than a has Ben.

No, you are not. Lloyd Cole is awesome. He has his very own style.

I vote this my favorite post of the bunch so far. I also vote Lloyd Cole one of my favorite Scots. More useless info: I like his stuff composed with the Commotions in the 80's even better. 'Rattlesnakes' is a short but totally hip/smart collection of songs-if you're into that kind of thing....

Thought this might be of interest—and to give they naysayers a sense of perspective.

"Lying here between your progeny and your Visa card statement" - hardly the most inspiring start to a song, is it? Even less inspiring is the delivery. Mute after 10 secs, sadly.

This song sounds like something from Flight of the Concords, except that it's unfortunately not a parody...  {#Eek}

Ditto - Rattlesnakes - there's also a compilation - 1984-1989, which is a great starting point.

I agree that this song doesn't represent well at all the depth of this mans genius.

But the genius is there. Go back to those early pieces - Mr. Malcontent, Perfect Skin, Rattlesnakes, etal.

mmmmm. . . Perfect Skin. . .

Nope, Lloyd Cole was having his hits as the front man of Lloyd Cole and the Commotions round about the same time as The The were making their first impact: The The's breakthrough album Soul Mining came out in 1983, the year before The Commotions' debut Rattlesnakes. Cole's voice isn't a million miles away from Matt Johnson's, so I can see where you are coming from, but it's not the same man. Go and buy Rattlesnakes and Soul Mining NOW - it's an order. "Read Norman Mailer, or get a new tailor".

Damn, everyone agrees with this view. Now it's ruined for me! Too bad, cuz' the music is beautiful. If he just wouldn't have said "progeny" I think you all would have left it alone. One danged misplaced "fascimile" and everyone freaks out. Geez. ;)

Lloyd Cole is alright.
