What planet are you folks from?
Skynard and all those others who
sound just like this learned
their licks from this man -
he was first! |

Doesn't anyone else remember this:
In 1977, NASA sent the Voyager space probe out into the great beyond and included cultural items representing all of humankind. The technology of the time (a copper phonograph record) limited their capacity, so they had to choose just one song to represent modern music. They chose well.
SNL sketch later: Transmission received from aliens says "Send more Chuck Berry."

This may be the highest rated song on RP.
I gave it a 10. Rock doesn't get better than this.
Yeah, 10 isn't high enough for this. This is proto-rock, one of the rocks upon which the whole castle is built. Not only does it totally ROCK OUT 50 years later, it tells his life story. This and his 'Memphis Tennessee' are high-water marks all later musicians still aspire to. |

I'd give it a 10, but it needs that Michael J. Fox guitar solo from Back To The Future.

I saw Andres Segovia, the legendary classical guitarist, at the Auditorium in Chicago. It was the mid '70's, he was in his 80's and had, I believe, a four year old son.
He pretty much stumbled through his performance, much to my disappointment. Age will do that I guess. |

Awesome song in my opinion, and I was born in 1975. Still sounds good today. The piano work is often overloooked in this song.
