I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thought this was Bowie.

Always a favorite!

Trivia: this song was played on the HBO special about the Moonlite Bunny Ranch. Why do I know this?!?!?!

Where is Edwyn? He had a brain aneurysm a few years ago and almost died so that's why you haven't heard anything form him.

I think he has a new album out, though.

Old towns change when you leave them, girls like her do things like that - and we all know about protest singers...

This song, though, for me it's timeless and unchanging. One of my Grecian urns - "For ever warm and still to be enjoy'd" - that is, a 10.

Edit - recent interview

Once upon a time, there was a guy who heard this song the first time in a very well-known German radio station, but then day for day... Nice to hear it again!

Sounds more like Chris Spedding / Mark Knopfler's (sp.?) voice! Nice one.

I've always thought until today that it WAS Bowie. And I used to be a Bowie fan. (still am, just older!). Nice tune.

I can kind of hear a bit of Bowie in his vocal style. When I first heard this, I thought it was a song from the mid-60's.

I was sure it was until the day I looked this song up on RP and found, to my great surprise, that indeed it was not. Amazing how similar the sound and vocal styles are to one another...

Yep,he also suffered an attack of the dreaded M.R.S.A. bug,but now seems to be on the mend, his old band Orange Juice are worth checking out.

Don't get the Bowie thing myself.

I've heard this song plenty of times over the years. I mean lots. Honest to shit, I always thought it was David Bowie! When I saw the "Edwyn Collins" tag at the top of the page I thought it was a mistake. I've never even heard of Edwyn Collins. Man, you're never too old to learn something new on RP.
