"...Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow..."...the story of my life and my high school year book quote! (not physically but spiritually...reminds me of the closing line of Fear and Loathing where hunter closes with ..."it's just not weird enough for me..."

Nothing beats early Bowie, and Ziggy played guitar!

The video to this song is one of quite a few Mick Rock shot for Bowie.

...and it is VERY good and very scary. If you have a son lock him away and don't let him watch that(or at least hide mommy's make-up). Might give him ideas...

Great song and as Bill said, inspiration for a great BBC tv prog which is now aired in the states. Can I just say, Bill, that Life on Mars is as far as possible from a "cheesy british cop show" as Six Foot Under was from a dark sit-com about undertakers. It was innovative, moving, funny and, ultimately, quite philosphical. And the hero is well fit, as we say over here!!!

Keep up the good work.

4 other people? Hell no.

Perhaps it would have been more accurate to say "one of only 4 people in the hick town in which I live who liked it." The people walking out of the theater (about half the not-large-to-start-with audience) didn't seem to be enjoying it. I loved it. I laughed all the way through, the way I have at all Wes Anderson movies. He's a genius.

I'd never heard of Seu Jorge before I saw the movie, though I hear he's a big pop star in Brazil. A native Portugese speaker with whom I work cleared up my confusion about pronunciation of the man's name - it's pronounced "soon george". Thank you, Nic.

And this is one of my fav Bowie songs ever. Why don't I own Hunky Dory? *sigh* Going on the very large "to buy" list RP has stuck me with . . .

That would be DCI Gene Hunt. What an uncannily prophetic lyric.

I've come at this at more angles than Linda Lovelace and I think you're right!!

Great song, great show!

The Life on Mars television series is great! The first season was aired over here this winter, and I can't wait for the next season to come around. Jolly good show!

Sounds like Rick Wakeman on the keys; I know he sessioned for Bowie on Space Oddity... perhaps he is on this? Anyway, interesting tune if not a favorite.

Maybe the song was chosen as the title song, and the the title, because -
it came out in 1973 (actually HD was 1971 from memory but close enough)
it sounds pretty good
it is almost as weird as the prog
and it contains those very words......
