I count around 15 PT tunes played on RP, -I think that is more than from any other artist. Life is good.

They definitely sound 70's. After Pink Floyd a few minutes ago, there is barely a difference. |

No problem with sounding 70s AFAIC. Steve Wilson was influenced by 60s and 70s music. I'm looking forward to their new CD in April. A great band IMHO. |

The second half of that song just shredded the wallpaper in my kitchen.
This is a good thing, as I love this song, and I never liked the wallpaper.

Porcupine Tree is one of those great finds that RP has brought me. Bill Goldsmith has enriched my musical library in so many ways.
Porcupine Tree is such an outstanding band. The lyrics, music, and depth of sound is unparalleled by any other contemporary artist out there currently. This album, although not as good as Abstentia or Deadwing, has a lot of material to work with. Definitely recommended to anyone who has listened to the other two albums prior. Awesome!

In listening to this song, it sounded like I had heard it before, but by a different band. I had thought Pale Saints - but I don't think they did it. Does anyone know if other bands have released a version of this song?

Suffice it to say I don't listen to standard radio much anymore.. mostly BECAUSE they don't have a diverse enough music reach to satisfy.... which is really why I wish RP could be picked up on a national network for rebroadcast... I think it would really do the world good, the big problem of course is the need for commercial airtime on regular radio..
Wow!!!!!!!!!!! I have been e-mailing their request line for the past couple of months without getting a response. PT came through this neck of the woods earlier this month, thought the general public should get a taste. |

this has the aura of Muzak: on and on, with no direction, only slow moving wandering, meandering, going nowhere.

It's always good to hear P-Tree, No-Man, or Blackfield here - Steven Wilson & co. deserve recognition, and being recognized by RP is (IMO) honor indeed.
Thanks, Bill!

lester wrote:Don't know what "prog rock" is, but I like this sound.
"Prog rock" is an abbreviation for progressive rock, a style of music that had its heydey in the 1970s and early 80s. It tends to involve lots of guitar and synthesizers, with interesting, syncopated rhythms and often more abstract lyrics than your standard 32-bar-blues song. It's called progressive rock partly because there is a progression to the melody and song structure -- more like a symphony than a 3-minute song. Concept albums, meant to be listened to all the way through, are "prog rock".
Some good examples of prog rock bands are Yes, Emerson Lake & Palmer, RUSH, and Pink Floyd. Porcupine Tree is a modern band that plays in the prog rock tradition (sort of). |

I love the way this builds like a symphony, and rocks with Floydian and even Genesis Lamb Lies Down-type bombast without taking it over the top. They are to be commended for pulling it all off and making it sound smooth. Surely a LOT of work went into this...and/ or they're all simply super bloody talented geniuses!
Rock on, Porc Tree!
