From Wikipidia: "Squire was responsible for writing the lyrics of the song, a scathing attack on the traditional image of Jesus. Squire portrayed the crucifixion of the Messiah with a black woman on the cross. This continued the band's theme of questioning the depiction of Christ, first used in the track "I Am The Resurrection."

Wait, you thought the lyrics were about something more disturbing that that?  I don't know, I find that explanation quite disturbing.  What did you think they were singing about?

I just heard this song for the first time a few weeks ago...while playing Rock Band 2. At the time I was asking what on earth the song was about. Queue it up on RP today and I remembered to look. :)

True that!  This song makes no sense but is so fun that no one cares.

I'm surprised that I like this track.  I didn't listen to this CD very much when it came out.  It was overall inferior to their stupendous debut CD years earlier so I short changed listening to this out of disappointment.  I'll have to drag that out for a few more spins.

The guitar work on this number is absolutely f*ckin' ripper, stonking, the dog's bollox, the kipper's knickers. It's a bugger that I'm not alone in the office otherwise I'd crank the volume to 11 and really let it rip. 8 from the Nottingham jury, plus regrets that I didn't get into the Stone Roses in their heyday.

Yeah, what he said!  Except that part about kipper's knickers, what is that?  Pants for a fish?

I seem to remember Kurt Cobain saying Stone Roses was one of his favorite bands.

Love the Stone Roses but c'mon guys, the name of this song is Moby Dick.  Just added some lyrics.  Note for note guitar sampling here.

Mr. Squire has obviously been practicing his Page licks. Listen to Moby Dick (riff actually lifted from Bobby Parker) then this one. Both are Dynamite!

I love how there's a "bonus track" in the middle of a sea of "unknowns" on the track listing. That's hilarious.
