Love the song, hate the politics.
(If people want to wax ad nauseam on their "views", then they should just go to joeuser.com or phone up nitwit radio where they will find a more appreciate audience)

from song meanings
I'm told that our lives aren't worth much,
Passing in an instant, like wilting roses,
I'm told that time slipping by is a bastard,
Making its coat of our sorrows.
Yet someone told me that you loved me still
Someone told me that you loved me still,
Well could that be possible? (chorus)
They say that fate doesn't care about us,
That it gives us nothing and promises us everything,
When happiness seems to be within our reach,
We reach out and find ourselves mad.
Yet someone told me
So who said that you still loved me?
I don't remember any more, it was late at night,
I can still hear the voice, but I can no longer see the face,
"He loves you, it's secret, don't tell him I told you."
You see, someone told me that you loved me still,
Did someone really tell me that you loved me still,
Well could that be possible?
I'm told that our lives aren't worth much,
Passing in an instant, like wilting roses,
I'm told that time slipping by is a bastard,
Making its coat of our sorrows.

Some songs should/could induce political discussion, this one doesn't.

I'm pretty sure she was in the opening ceremony for the Torino Winter Olympics. Unfortunately, they didn't let her sing, they just put her in a designer dress and had her walk a flag around. She did look good though. |

Q for you Tony: Just because you can say something, should you? Seems it's one thing to say you don't like a song, but saying other people "suck" for having an opinion seems out of line and misguided.
Grow up.

Maybe Glockman45 was referring to her prior involvement with Mr. Jagger (wasn't anyone alive in '92 and remember Jerry Hall splattered all over the tabloids when she was flipped out about this gal?) She's a beautiful girl, but the music....?
i did my homework on the Ms. prior to my remarks and found a snail trail from one gold digging opportunity (Jagger) to another (Trump). beautiful, yes, but that only gets you so far....her music isn't getting her anywhere....seen the sales numbers? |

I bumped my rating up a point just to annoy the zombie pseudopoliticos.
When your arguement amount to predominantly quoting talk show hosts and cartoon characters, you've got a problem.

Well, it definitely sounds good, but I have no idea what she's saying. French is a beautiful language, though.
I don't know why politics had to be brought into this thread, but since it has been... it's really sad when every single time someone talks about the French, someone else has to bring out the Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter within them and make stupid comments. The far left of this country is no different than your typical French person when it comes to politics, so if you hate the French so much, then you clearly have lots of your fellow Americans to hate, too.
And it's really uneducated to generalize all French people as one. People from France in Europe compared to French Canadians in Quebec are different. In fact, anyone from Quebec would tell you that they don't get along very well with people from France and vice-versa.
And really, I never quite understood all of the hate against the French compared to any other European (or Canadian depending on who you're talking about). If it's because they supplied Iraq with mobile weapons facilities, you can stop getting upset about that because that's actually not true, the French never had anything to do with it; they don't exist.
Anyway, it's not like the French are a bunch of terrorists; you can get mad at France for having laid back immigration laws perhaps, but that's basically everywhere in Europe - it's dumb to focus all your negative energy on only one part. It's not like true French Europeans or French Canadians are individuals that pose some kind of threat towards the US. They don't.

Why oh why does anyone have to bring politics into music?? Leave the Dumbacrats and Republicants to their feeble, useless and pointless arguments.
I like french fries, french toast, and this song.

Thank you so much Kazuma for your very appropriate replies. Ignorance is a terrible thing as it generates so much negative feeling such as fear and anger. So many people capitalise on it though, it's too tempting, too easy to use in order to alienate people. I've recently come accross some of Bill O'Reilly's propaganda and it is sickening. I'm glad that it is not fooling/fouling everybody though.
I'm French and not specially proud of it, but I'm proud to be on the same planet as you.
