So, what, they're only allowed to play independents and obscurities here?

I find the snobbery of "Oh,it's something the hoi polloi enjoy; horrors! My ears are too dainty to be sullied by such tripe" to be as narrow-minded and ridiculous as those people who only listen to the Top Ten of the Week on their local Clear Channel affiliate. The beauty of RP is, as you say, diversity--and "diversity", in my dictionary, does not equate to "everything but those artists who have the misfortune to make music that becomes popular".

That's odd. This is exactly why I turn to RP. Here is the only place I can find an excellently produced mix of classic, new, independent, world, jazz, classical, in fact everything. Take out the classic and best of each performer only becuase it gets airplay on other stations and what would you have? A college radio station. Let's just recognize quality when we hear it and be grateful for the opportunity to listen.

The 30th Anniversary box set of Born to Run has some great live stuff.

I love this song from the concert at Hammersmith in '73, especially Little Steven in his pimp outfit! :-)

Super song! If you were in college in the 70's this was the "crank it up song". The most requested song late night night at WXYC UNC Chapel Hill in 1979. Crank it, stand up, and sing w/ Bruce as LOUD as you can...You'll get it.

Springsteen is so over-rated. A 2. Interminable.

This song is okay, but most of BS's songs end up being crowd singing anthems, at least his old stuff.

He should be faulted for his popularity?

This definitely was not a song that, upon its release, was sung as an anthem. Remember, this song is more than 30 years old.

Exactly! I remember this was always a winning tune at parties in college - one in particular. The joint was jumping, I tell you! It's a 10 for me.

it's not over yet? I turned RP off because this came on - went and got a snack - had a "meeting" - came back and it was still on!

I always wondered why I'd never heard any other songs of Bruce's besides the few hits.

Now I understand why. :puke:

And here I thought Bruce was kinda lame. Best thing I've ever heard from him, I'd have to say.

Isn't there a Blues Traveler that sounds similar this? Ok, there's a Counting Crows song that sounds like this part.

The entire album is superior. This was the FIRST ALBUM I ever bought, as a soph in H.S. 1975. New York City Serenade with that beautiful piano intro by David Sancious, Incident on 57th Street, etc. Wild Billy'd Circus Story was a bit creepy, though.

I didn't "get" Bruce until I saw him in concert, way back in 1978. For this song he climbed up on the amps, and the pure joy and musicianship displayed by the entire band during the 3+ hours of the show made for one helluva party.

I agree. I had the very same experience, in the very same year. The studio versions always sound thin to me in comparison, but they remind me of the shows and that's a wonderful thing.
